History of the school 
  • Dudley Senanayake Central College was started in 1910, in a cadjan thatched, roughly built wattle and daub hut, with only 19 students. It was in half an acre block of land donated by Mr.W.D.S.Bandara.
  • he first teacher was Mr. Gunarathna. The number of students was 19
  • . In 1945 the school was raised to the level of a Central College in accordance with the Free Education concept of Dr. C.W.W.Kannangara. The aim of the school was to provide higher educational opportunities for poor rural, talented children. At this time a fair-seeing neighbouring land owner by the name Wijesundara Ralahami donated two acres of his land to the school.
 
  • Mr. K.Peiris assumed duties as the acting principal on 22.10.1945. Mr. Vandabona also had worked as a Head Master.
  • On 29 th October 1945 , Vijayaba Central College was opened ceremonially by the Minister of Education.
  • On 30 th October 1945, the first student was admitted to Vijayaba Central College . He was A.J. Dharmadasa.
  • By 17 th October, the number of students increased up to 310.
  • Mr.F.D.Serasinhe assumed duties on 3 rd May 1948 . That was the golden era of this school. There was a great advancement n academic, co-curricular and extra - curricular activities.
  • In 1950, Advanced Level classes in the Arts stream were initiated while science stream classes were setup ten years later.
  • 1960 - Advance Level Classes in Science Scheme were set up.
  • 1962 - For the first time in the University Entrance and High School Certificate Examination, 04 students were selected to the Engineering Faculty and 05 other students were selected to the University of Lumumba in Russia.
  • This school was promoted to the level of a National school in 1990.
